Making The Most Out of My Birthday!

Updated: Jul 8, 2020

"Every year on your birthday, you get a chance to start new!" - Sammy Hagar

July is here and that means it's my birthday month (in case you haven't been tuned into the Facebook group to hear that 1,000x)! Every year around my birthday I like to take a look at the past year and make some goals for the next. I look at what's worked, what hasn't - what goals I've made and met, and what goals I'm still working toward - and how I can work the next 365 days to make myself even better than I am right now.

Obviously my business, and this community, play a HUGE ROLE in all of these thoughts and my goal planning - and I'm going to get a bit personal here, but because of all of you I feel FREE to make bigger and better goals for the coming year. You all have allowed me the FREEDOM to explore my passions, to step outside my comfort zone, to try new things, and to grow so much as a woman, wife, and mother. I'm profoundly grateful for the opportunities that we've had, and continue to have, because of your support for our business and our family!

With that said, I've set some pretty lofty goals for the next trip around the sun! Some are personal, some professional - some I'm working on at this very moment (hello LIFESTYLE by Ashlee Marie Boutique), and some have just started to come together. Some are so HUGE that I can barely believe I'm even considering them - but I am. And not only that, I'm making a plan to achieve them!! I'm EXCITED for this next year and so ready to tackle my to-do list and see where this year takes me.

Here are a few questions I ask myself as I'm planning and goal-setting:

  1. Where did I think I'd be today this time last year? Am I there? What have I done/not done to be where I am?

  2. What do I want for myself (personally or professionally) this time next year? What's my dream goal? Take this one and really reach for the stars - set the BIG GOAL right here!

  3. What 4 steps will get me there?

  4. How can I accomplish each step? Whose help do I need? What skill/education/resource am I lacking to make that happen?

  5. How do I FEEL today? How do I want to feel next year? What needs to happen to get me there?

  6. Who have I helped this year? How have I used my skills and gifts to bless someone else and help support them on their journey?

  7. What is my intention or focus for the next year (this could be a season of rest, maybe a period of learning or working on a new skill, perhaps you are focusing on health or building your family, maybe you want to expand/grow in your profession)? Does my goal(s) align with my intention? Do my feelings align with my intention?

We all know 2020 has been nothing short of crazy, so I encourage you to take some time by yourself to think about your goals. It doesn't need to be your birthday to carve out a few minutes of personal time to really dig into what it is you want and what you're going to do to make it happen! I know you can accomplish anything you hope for, and I am here to cheer you on, just like you've done for me! Write it down, be intentional, and make a plan. You can do it!
