"In the right denim, a girl can conquer the world..." - Unknown
We've made it through March - I can't believe it! I don't know about you, but I feel like 2020 needs a restart! Anyone else? At least with the close of the month, comes warmer days and a lot more sunshine! I'm ready!
With spring finally here and warmer days on their way, it's time to talk about our final Spring Capsule Staple! Our final staple style is one I know many of you have tried out this year and would be a great piece to add, if you haven't! Check it out below, along with some tips on how to style with pieces already in your closet!
Spring Capsule Staple #5: Distressed Denim
Distressed denim is having its moment in American fashion, and thanks to so many styles and variations - there's sure to be a pair that works with your unique style. I have found that pairs with minimal distressing and "whiskering" have a more classic look that most ladies feel confident and beautiful in! Below I'm going to share a few ways to incorporate a pair of distressed denim into your existing wardrobe to make you spring-ready!
Wear with layers: Distressed denim is the perfect pant to pair with layers. A pair with minimal distressing creates a sense of ease and casualness, and also gives you a blank canvas to play with patterns and colors up top! This is a great opportunity to play with a darker or lighter-colored denim jacket for a casual, yet put-together look. I would highly recommend steering clear of matching denim though...you don't need to be wearing a denim suit!
Wearing distressed denim with a casual button-down is also a great layering option. If your office is more casual, this can be a great way to incorporate denim into your workwear wardrobe. Distressing shouldn't be too heavy - with 1-2 slightly distressed markings (no giant holes and large areas of skin showing), and a darker pair of denim is more office-appropriate! Dress them up by pairing with work-approved shoes like booties, heels, or flats.
Go Graphic: Distressed denim is also a great companion for your graphic (or regular) tees! Nothing goes together better than jeans and a t-shirt and the two make an excellent spring outfit! As mentioned in previous blog posts, there are so many ways to style your tees (knotted, tucked in, layered, cuffed) - play with all the combos you can make! For a more casual, laid-back look, I like to cuff my denim or go for a pair that is slightly baggy. Lighter-colored denim also has a more casual look and pairs great with a knotted graphic tee!
Play with length: As we move into warmer months, I highly encourage you to play with the length of your distressed denim. Grab an ankle-cut pair, or slice off the bottoms of a pair that's too long to create a raw-distressed hem. Cuff above your favorite flats, or roll-up to mid-calf for a "boyfriend" look with sandals. There are so many options, and bound to be one that works for you!
Regardless of wash or length, every woman should add a pair of distressed denim to their spring wardrobes! Casual, easy, and laid back - words that describe my spring style, and so easy to accomplish with the spring capsule staples I've shared. I hope that over the last five weeks, you've been encouraged and inspired to look within your current wardrobe and start building outfits that will transition you from winter in to the spring season, using the capsule staples I've shared.
