“Spring is a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.” -Unknown
We've officially sprung forward and now I'm ready for spring to arrive! I've been daydreaming about my warmer-weather wardrobe and prepping my Spring Capsule Staples to start building out my outfits!
Last week I introduced the denim jacket as our first Spring Capsule Staple. There are so many ways to style this iconic piece, and this week's style is no different. In fact - pair them together for some spring perfection!! Check out this week's Spring Capsule Staple below - you all know it's one of my favorites, and I know it will be one of yours as well!
Spring Capsule Staple #2: Classic Button Down Shirt
A classic button down is no longer an item reserved only for the office. This staple is the perfect addition to any wardrobe and especially perfect for the coming spring season! There are so many ways to incorporate a button down, and with the introduction of LuLaRoe's Valentina top, there has never been a more comfortable style to wear! As most of you know, I'm a HUGE fan of the Valentina and have found multiple ways to style this iconic Spring Capsule Staple to help you play with your wardrobe!
On its Own: The button-down is the perfect top to wear on it's own! This is a great way to play with patterns and bright colors for spring! If you're looking for structure and shape, a button-down is the perfect top for you. The bias-cut side seams create a feminine curve, and an open neckline adds length and emphasizes your beautiful face! Play with a button-down by wearing it oversized with leggings or knotted over a pair of high-waisted denim. I also recommend playing with your sleeve length by rolling them for a more casual length.
Play with Layers: Not into wearing a button-down on it's own - then don't! This classic style is perfection when layered under or over another piece! For those chillier spring days, grab a cardigan (like a Lucille or Caroline) and throw it on over your favorite button-down. Roll your sleeves up for a pop of color, or play with patterns for a fun mix. Slightly warmer? Grab a bright tank or graphic tee and layer your button down on top! It's the perfect cover for a chilly morning and looks really cute knotted up over the top too!
Knotted over Dresses: A classic button down has also become one of my go-to looks with a sundress or maxi. It's a great addition when you want a little added coverage or would like to draw some attention to your waist line (hello hour-glass figure). My favorite is a Valentina tied over a Jessie or Nicki dress - giving me a relaxed vacation vibe! This is a great opportunity to play with a fun pop of color or spring print (think florals, polka-dots, or geometrics).
Regardless of your general style, age, or geographic location - adding a classic button down to your spring wardrobe is a no-brainer! It is sure to be a piece that you can mix and match into multiple outfits and will transition you into spring with ease!
